CallBreak:

The exact origins of CallBreak are uncertain, but many speculate that it evolved from the trick-based game Spades. Known as Lakdi or Lakadi in certain regions, CallBreak has gained immense popularity in Nepal and India. In this game, players use the term "hand" instead of "trick" and "call" instead of "bid." After each deal, players must make a call regarding the number of hands they believe they can capture. The objective is to meet or exceed the declared number of hands and prevent opponents from achieving their own calls.

Deal & Call:

CallBreak is a captivating four-player card game centered around the trump suit spades. A standard 52-card deck is used for gameplay. Each game consists of five rounds (deals), with the first dealer being chosen at random. Cards are distributed counterclockwise from the initial dealer, with each player receiving 13 cards. The game commences as players announce their expected winning hands, starting with the player to the left of the dealer. Subsequently, calls are made in a counterclockwise rotation until every player has placed their call.

Game Play:

Once calls have been established, the player adjacent to the dealer kicks off the first move. The initial player may lead with any card, subsequently designating the lead suit for the round. The remaining players must play cards of the same suit if possible. If a player lacks any cards of the lead suit, they must break the suit by playing a spade card of any value. If no spade card is held, any other card may be played. The hand is won by the highest-ranking card of the lead suit or, if spades have been played to break the lead suit, by the highest-ranking spade. The winner of the hand leads with their choice of card for the subsequent hand. This process continues for a total of 13 hands before proceeding to the next deal.

Points:

Following each round, players receive a points update based on their performance. Players who successfully capture at least as many hands as their declared calls are awarded one point per hand. Additionally, if a player captures extra hands beyond their call, they receive one-tenth of a point (0.10) for each additional hand. For instance, if a player declares three calls and achieves four hands, they will earn a total of 3.1 points. Conversely, players who fail to capture enough hands to meet their declared calls receive negative points equivalent to the number of unmet hands. For example, if a player declares four calls but secures only two hands, they will be awarded -2 points.

Result:

The game concludes after the fifth round, and the player with the highest accumulated points emerges as the winner.

Jutpatti:

Jutpatti is an incredibly accessible card game that many people in Nepal and India learn to play first. Its rules are straightforward: Jutpatti is played with an odd number of cards (such as 5, 7, 9, or 11). After each player receives the required number of cards for each hand, the top card of the remaining deck is revealed as the 'joker.' Players must then form card pairs such that each pair matches the value of the 'joker' card. Until all pairs have been formed, players take turns discarding cards, drawing from the deck, or picking up cards discarded by other players. The first player to successfully form pairs with all their cards wins.
